What to Watch in Thursday’s Primary Elections in Tennessee

Tennessee is the one state internet hosting a major contest on Thursday.

All polling locations within the state shut concurrently: 8 p.m. within the Japanese time zone and seven p.m. within the Central time zone. Search for polling areas and pattern ballots right here.

Two of the notable races on the poll:

Governor

Gov. Invoice Lee, a Republican, is in search of re-election and greater than half of all voters approve of the job he’s doing, in keeping with current polling. Democrats, nonetheless, are attempting to make the case that he might be toppled in a basic election. The Democratic major options three candidates: Jason Martin, a Nashville doctor; J.B. Smiley, a Memphis lawyer and metropolis councilman; and Carnita Atwater, a Memphis group activist.

Fifth Congressional District

Redistricting diluted Democrats’ energy on this Nashville-area district, making it more favorable for Republicans and prompting Jim Cooper, the 16-term Democratic congressman representing it, to retire. The Republican major is crowded with 10 candidates, together with Kurt Winstead, a businessman who has raised hefty sums for his marketing campaign, and the previous Tennessee Home Speaker Beth Harwell. State Senator Heidi Campbell is unopposed on the Democratic aspect.

Looking forward to November

Whereas not aggressive on Thursday, the autumn matchup is already set within the newly drawn Seventh District, which incorporates blue downtown Nashville along with redder rural areas of Tennessee — conserving it favorable to Republicans. Consultant Mark Inexperienced is operating unopposed for the Republican nomination and hopes to safe a second time period. Odessa Kelly, a group organizer, is the Democratic candidate and is operating with the backing of the Justice Democrats, a progressive political motion committee.
