The Person Employing you will let you know if a DBS check is required for the job that you are applying for and if required they will also let you know the level of check that is required.
It is not mandatory for every person employed in an organisation to get a DBS Check. The main reason behind a DBS check is the nature and the responsibility of the job role that you are looking or applying for. It is the duty of the employer as they are legally bound to check if a DBS check os required for the role that you are applying for.
Based on the fact that the employer decides whether a Standard or enhanced DBS check is required, there are a large number of occupations that would require a Standard DBS check.
There are some jobs that by default would require either a Standard or Enhanced DBS check. Such as:
- Coaches or a Teacher
- A Social Worker

If the Volunteer is working around children on a regular basis or even with the elderly then either, a standard or enhanced DBS check will need to be carried out.
