‘We got out just in time’: Grab driver and passengers narrowly escape car bursting into flames

SINGAPORE: A Grab driver and his three passengers narrowly escaped their car earlier than it burst into flames on Sunday night time (Sep 5).

The incident occurred alongside the Central Expressway (CTE) in direction of Seletar Expressway (SLE), earlier than the Yio Chu Kang exit. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) stated on Tuesday that it was alerted to the fireplace at about 9.30pm.

Speaking to CNA, Mr Tiwari stated he was together with his flatmate Mr Ankur Sharma and a pal, Ms Richa Tibarewal. They boarded the Grab car at round 9pm after they abruptly smelled smoke.

“The car started filling up inside and we could definitely smell it and we could see the smoke around the car also,” the 34-year-old stated, including that they panicked after seeing motorcyclists pointing in direction of the car.

According to Mr Tiwari, the driver tried to search for a highway shoulder the place he may cease the car, however there have been too many automobiles on the expressway. It took them 40 to 50 seconds earlier than they managed to cease on the chevron marking.

As they have been making an attempt to escape, Mr Sharma - who was sitting on the appropriate rear seat - discovered that his door was jammed. All three passengers managed to hurry out from the left rear door.

Mr Sharma and the driver briefly tried to search out out the place the smoke was coming from.
