When it first got here out in 1988, John Waters' Hairspray marked an enormous change in route for the filmmaker – a PG film made within the wake of infamous titles like Pink Flamingos, Feminine Bother, and Polyester. The film stars Ricki Lake as Tracy Turnblad, a peppy, plus-sized teenager who finds herself with the chance to advertise integration when she efficiently auditions to be a dancer on a TV present. Whereas not precisely a field workplace smash hit, like lots of Waters' movies it wound up gaining an enormous cult following, and in 2002 it was tailored as a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical.
