States' Role Vital For Emission Intensity Reduction By 45% Till 2030: Power Minister

Power Minister R Ok Singh has mentioned that states' position is significant in emission depth discount

Emphasising that states' position is important for profitable implementation of the discount in emission depth by 45 per cent by 2030, Power Minister R Ok Singh on Wednesday directed state governments to arrange state-level steering committees for power transition.

The states and union territories will work on annual methods for power transition below these committees.

These committees will operate below the chairmanship of respective chief secretaries and can have as members principal secretaries of energy, renewable power, transport, agriculture, rural improvement, public works in addition to city affairs departments.

Mr Singh whereas emphasising that power transition is the one approach of lowering carbon emissions, identified that some states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have already constituted such committees.

The states have been urged upon by the Power Minister to realize zero diesel ranges in agriculture by 2024 b lowering the consumption of diesel within the sector.

For this, monetary help by way of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme may be taken for adopting photo voltaic power for separate agricultural feeders and agricultural feeders, the minister urged in a gathering with states.
