Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who played a key role in India’s historic win in Australia, was on Monday selected for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) First Man of the Month award. The ICC has introduced the best player of the month award for the first time.
The 23-year-old Pant hit a 97-run knock against Australia in Sydney which helped India draw the match, while his unbeaten 89-run knock in Brisbane saw India win the historic series. Expressing happiness over receiving the award, Pant said in a release from the ICC that it is the greatest prize for any player to contribute to the team’s victory, but such an initiative motivates the youth to improve themselves. .

He said that I dedicate this award to every member of Team India who contributed to our victory in Australia. I would also like to thank all the fans who voted for me. Pant played an aggressive innings of 91 runs against England on the third day of the first Test being played in Chennai.
After Rishabh Pant won the award, ICC Voting Academy member and former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja said that Pant played both these innings under pressure and facing different challenges. He showed his variety of skills in drawing and winning matches. During this time, he showed an amazing mindset.
Among the women cricketers, South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail won the monthly award, who had performed brilliantly in 3 ODIs and 2 T20 Internationals during this period. He took 7 wickets in the ODI series against Pakistan. He took 5 wickets in the second T20 International against this team. The winners of these awards will be decided on the second Monday of every month on the ICC’s digital channels.
