Photos: Confronting racism and a pandemic, the Class of 2021 reflects on America

One younger girl grew alarmed when she noticed Confederate flags pop up round her small city. Another pupil usually quietly knitted to persevere by stress. A Black teenager in the South feared racist violence greater than a virus. These college students have all confronted social and political change over their highschool careers. They had been freshman when Donald Trump was elected the US president and after a summer time of protests over racism and violence they're graduating beneath the pandemic’s shadow. Reuters captured conversations with members of the Class of 2021 that open a window on the place America - from Maine to California - stands now and its future.
