Patients experiencing severe hospitalization and bloodstream infections with severe symptoms of Covid-19 are at great risk. It has been claimed in a study. However, these results of the study may pave the way for new treatment strategies.
The study, published in the journal ‘Clinical Infectious Diseases’, is the first study to assess microbiology, risk factors, and outcomes in patients experiencing hospitalization and bloodstream infections with severe symptoms of Covid-19.

In the study, researchers from the University of Rutgers of the US assessed the health of 375 serious patients of Covid-19 from March to May 2020. They examined 128 samples from the group that had bloodstream infections, of which 92 percent were bacterial.
Pinki Bhatt, co-author of the study from the university, said, “These patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to the possibility of being under extreme mental stress, low oxygen concentration.” “

According to scientists, the patients who needed to be given extra oxygen from outside had more problems with bloodstream infection. Scientists involved in the study said that the mortality rate of such hospitalized patients was more than 50 percent.
According to the study, 80 percent of the patients included in the study were sometimes given ‘antimicrobial’ during their hospitalization, it was also given to patients who did not have a bloodstream infection.

Bhatt said more studies needed to be done to understand when to suspect and treat bloodstream infections in serious patients of Covid-19.
