New Zealand has announced a 13-man squad for the two-Test series against Pakistan. The selectors have replaced Mitchell Santner in place of Ejaz Patel as a spinner.
Santner played his last Test match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last year. He is an important part of the limited overs team and he is seen as the captain of New Zealand in future.
Ijaz did not play in the two-Test series against the West Indies due to an injury in the calf.

Apart from this, captain Kane Williamson has returned to the team. He could not play the second Test match played against West Indies in Wellington, beacuse he bacome father.
Devon Conway is out due to his return. At the same time, Colin is not part of the Grandhom Series due to an ankle injury and his place includes Darrell Mitchell in the team.
The first Test between New Zealand and Pakistan will be played on 26 December at Mount Maunganui. The second Test will be held in Christchurch from 3 January.
This series is very important for New Zealand in view of the final of ICC World Test Championship. In the Phila Points table, Australia is first, India is second and New Zealand is third. If New Zealand defeats Pakistan 2–0 and India have a poor performance in the series against Australia, then the Kiwi team can strengthen their claim to the final.
