Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is undoubtedly among the best Nintendo Switch video games of all time. In truth, I’d go so far as to say it represents the top of Nintendo’s lengthy-working racing series. It’s merely that rattling good.
It’s accessible to gamers of all ages, nonetheless seems completely implausible to this present day, and is universally adored by virtually anybody who has ever performed it.
So why hasn’t Nintendo launched any Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC? Good query.
The sport continues to promote hundreds of thousands of models yearly, a feat made all of the extra spectacular while you keep in mind that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is nothing greater than a easy port of the Wii U title which was launched in 2014, albeit with all earlier DLC and a revamped Battle Mode included.
From April 2020 to March 2021 alone, Nintendo shifted 10.6 million copies of the sport, which reveals there’s nonetheless an unbelievable urge for food to see Nintendo’s forged of beloved characters skidding round a monitor driving go-karts and bikes.

And but, despite the fact that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has bought a staggering 37 million copies so far (that’s greater than Animal Crossing: New Horizons, by the best way) for some inexplicable motive, Nintendo isn’t capitalizing on the sport’s industrial success and widespread enchantment.
Stalling in the beginning line
Nintendo shortly tossed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe apart shortly after launch – similar to while you get a banana peel in sixth place when what you actually want is a mushroom or three purple shells.
Yes, the Deluxe model got here with some pleasing additions, such because the aforementioned (and far-wanted) Battle Mode refresh, the power to hold two gadgets directly, and new characters like my boy King Boo. But assist for the sport has been virtually non-existent ever since. I can solely bear in mind a Breath of the Wild outfit and bike being added for Link when it comes to genuinely new content material submit-launch.
Instead of retaining Mario Kart 8 Deluxe related, Nintendo has spent its time and sources nurturing Mario Kart Tour, the cell sport which was launched in 2019. It’s simply dropped a new trailer for the sport’s ‘Sydney Tour’, which is able to let gamers race as a kangaroo-themed Yoshi and Koala Baby Mario. And sure, they give the impression of being lovable, however why aren’t they in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? Surely an injection of recent beauty skins wouldn’t be too expensive on Nintendo’s behalf?

While the free-to-play cell market is at all times a profitable possibility, one thing which the success of Fire Emblem Heroes proved with eye-watering certainty (it’s earned Nintendo over $656 million) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is nonetheless a gold mine brimming with untold riches.
Remember, 37 million copies have been bought, so even when new DLC is solely bought by 10% of individuals (if we take that quantity at face worth), that’s nonetheless an viewers of three.7 million that Nintendo is leaving untapped.
Gold commonplace
"The wait for some new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe seems inexcusable, and unfortunately, Nintendo seems to be doing everything it can to squander the game’s potential."
So what can Nintendo do to make Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the shining star of the Switch’s library? Well, the very first thing is extremely apparent: make some new DLC – and stat. Some new tracks would immediately generate extra curiosity within the sport, and encourage older gamers again into the fold.
Heck, I’d even settle for some new racers. I imply simply take a look at the thrill that surrounds each new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character reveal: why isn’t Nintendo doing the identical factor for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? Where is Samus? Why isn’t Birdo again within the fray? It’s downright legal that I can’t race round as Kirby, both. Come to consider it, how come we haven’t bought any devoted Mario Kart amiibo?

Not solely is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in dire want of some new content material, then, nevertheless it’s the kind of title that would single-handedly drive Switch Online subscriptions, too. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of many few video games that makes having a Nintendo Switch Online subscription value it now that you could’t play on-line for free, and I’ve usually discovered the servers to be greater than acceptable when racing in opposition to buddies or random strangers throughout the globe. New Mario Kart 8 Deluxe content material would virtually assure I picked up a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
To stop segmenting the participant base on-line, Nintendo might make the brand new tracks free on-line, whereas the paid model unlocks single-participant cups, time trials, and probably new Battle Mode arenas.
Stuck within the pits
The wait for some new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe appears inexcusable, and sadly, Nintendo appears to be doing every little thing it could actually to squander the sport’s potential. By including some new content material, it might preserve gamers pleased and make some critical money and within the course of.
I’m bored with racing (and successful) on the identical previous tracks, and with Mario Kart 9 nonetheless nothing greater than a warp pipe dream at this level, it’s solely proper that Nintendo offers Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the eye it deserves.
