Introduction
Namaskar, friends! The results of the Pre-Medical Neet Exam have spread all over the country. By the way, this exam has been given by 23 lakh students this year. But it's not just about these 23 lakh students. It's about every student of the country who expects to get a fair chance to get admission in a good college. It's about every child of the country who thinks that by working hard and studying they will get a good future.
Current Challenges in the Education System
We all know, friends, that there is a lot of pressure on students in our country. Competition is very tough. There is a severe shortage of good colleges in the country. There is a severe shortage of good seats in the good colleges. And now the exams that are being conducted for the seats, if they are not done properly, then what hope will be left for the country's future? Leaking of the papers or conducting the exams in a bad way has become a common thing since the last few years. A few days after the last month of the exams, the Patna Police arrested 13 people for leaking the papers. These people were charging Rs. 30-50 lakhs for every leaked paper from every student.
Recent Incidents of Paper Leaks
- On 10th May, a racket was busted in Gujarat involving an education consultancy owner, a school teacher, and a BJP leader, charging Rs. 10-10 lakhs from every student to help them in the exams.
- The Indian Express investigation revealed 41 different paper leaks affecting 1.4 crore job seekers in the last 5 years.
- NEET exam results on 4th June showed unbelievable irregularities, being called a large-scale scam.
NEET Exam Overview
NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) is for Undergraduates admission across medical, dental, and IUSH courses in India. Initially, NEET faced opposition from various states and was fully implemented in 2016. From 2019, NTA (National Testing Agency) took over its conduct, aiming for transparency and independence.
NEET Exam Structure
Subject | Number of Questions | Questions to Attempt | Total Marks |
---|---|---|---|
Physics | 50 | 45 | 720 |
Chemistry | 50 | 45 | |
Zoology | 50 | 45 | |
Botany | 50 | 45 |
Exam Irregularities and Results
On 4th June, the NEET results showed 67 students scoring full marks (720/720), a significant increase from previous years. NTA cited reasons such as the exam being easy, a higher number of candidates, and grace marks for discrepancies in answer keys. However, these reasons were filled with factual and logical loopholes.
Problems and Responses
Many students found discrepancies between their OMR sheets and final results. For instance, 18-year-old Arshita saw an 80-mark difference, while Shoaib noticed a 10-mark difference. Despite these issues, the results were declared 10 days early, coinciding with election results, raising questions about timing and transparency.
Calls for Action
Opposition leaders and the Supreme Court have demanded answers, with over 40,000 students signing a petition for re-conducting the exam. The NTA has offered to remove grace marks and allow re-examination or accept scores without grace marks.
Advice for Students
A simple but important advice is that there should always be a Plan B or Plan C in life. Don't put your entire future at risk. Always have at least one backup plan.
Conclusion
The integrity of the NEET exam and the broader education system in India is under scrutiny. Continued pressure and accountability are necessary to ensure fair and transparent examination processes. Keep raising your voice and never lose hope, even in the face of a frustrating system.
