SINGAPORE: A 39-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly cheating e-commerce platform Lazada of more than S$100,000.
In a information launch on Thursday (Aug 19), the police stated they obtained a report of suspected fraudulent actions on the e-commerce platform.
A vendor had masqueraded as patrons and allegedly defrauded Lazada of more than S$100,000 by abusing its voucher funds and patrons' refund schemes, stated the authorities.
Through follow-up investigations and shut collaboration with Lazada, officers from the Commercial Affairs Department established the identification of the person.
He was arrested on Aug 18 within the neighborhood of Silat Avenue in Bukit Merah. A desktop pc, cellphones and SIM playing cards that had been used to facilitate his fraudulent actions had been seized.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Those discovered responsible of cheating could also be jailed for as much as 10 years and fined.
"The police take a serious view of persons who may be involved in scams and frauds, and perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law."
