Mahipal Lomror broke Bihar's dream by playing stormy innings, Rajasthan reached the semi-finals

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021: Rajasthan beat Bihar by 16 runs on the back of Mahipal Lomror’s fine innings to enter the semi-finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament on Wednesday. Rajasthan will face Tamil Nadu in the first semi-final on 29 January while the second semi-final will be played between Baroda and Punjab. Punjab, Baroda, and Tamil Nadu defeated Karnataka, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh to advance to the semi-finals.

Rajasthan batting first scored 164 for five wickets. Mahipal Lomror”s 37 balls for his side scored an unbeaten 78 with the help of five fours and the same sixes. He scored 20 runs in the last over of Bihar captain Ashutosh Aman. It was also the last over of the innings. Lommor scored at a strike rate of 210.81. Apart from them, Bharat Sharma and Ankit Lamba contributed 38–38 runs. Both shared a 59-run partnership for the first wicket. Ashutosh Aman and Suraj Kashyap took two wickets each for Bihar.

Chasing a target of 165 runs, Bihar’s team was able to score 148 runs for four wickets. Mahipal Lomror scored an unbeaten 68 off 58 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. No batsman supported him well at the other end. Vikas Yadav scored an unbeaten 27 off 17 balls in the final moments but he could not reach the team goal. Bihar lost the match due to slow batting, dropping catches and bowling poorly in the death overs.

Earlier in the other match of the day, Baroda defeated Haryana. Baroda’s victory over Haryana was the middle-order batsman Vishnu Solanki. He scored an unbeaten 71, including 16 runs off the final three balls. Haryana had scored 148 runs for seven wickets. He was in a position to defend his score. Baroda needed 23 runs in the last two overs. Captain Mohit Sharma conceded only five runs in the 19th over. In this way Baroda needed 18 runs in the last over.

The Baroda batsmen scored three runs off the first three balls. After that, he needed 15 runs off the last three balls. In such a situation, Solanki hit six and then fours on fast bowler Sumit Kumar. Baroda was now five runs away from the target and Solanki scored the winning six off the last ball to take the team score to 150 for two. Solanki hit four fours and five sixes in his innings of 46 balls. Captain Kedar Deodhar scored 43 runs off 40 balls.
