COMPANY FINED FOR ILLEGAL IMPORT OF VEGETABLES

Another importer, Fresh Choice Avenue, was fined S$10,000 on Wednesday for illegally bringing in recent fruit and veggies, in addition to processed food on the market.

SFA stated that on Sep 2 final yr, authorities detected round 349kg of undeclared and under-declared recent fruit and veggies, in addition to 304kg of undeclared processed greens. 

The merchandise have been imported from Malaysia.

Fruits and greens can solely be imported into Singapore by licensed importers, stated SFA, including that each consignment should be declared and accompanied by a sound import allow.

“Illegally imported vegetables are of unknown sources and can pose a food safety risk, for example, if unregulated or high level of pesticides are used,” stated the company.  

“The long-term ingestion of excessive pesticide residues through the consumption of vegetables that have been subjected to pesticide abuse could lead to adverse health effects.”

If discovered responsible of illegally importing recent fruit and veggies, offenders face a tremendous of as much as S$10,00, a jail time period of as much as three years, or each.
