For now, everyone suffers from one health-related issue and another. Some suffer from digestive issues such as gas, acidity and IBS while some deal with increasing sugar levels or fluctuating blood pressure. Seventy-five per cent of Indians have a protruding belly, a few suffer from early hair loss, others are unable to get rid of skin ailments. These time and again health problems — migraines, asthma, uric acid, fatty liver, stress — are so common these days among teenagers/preadolescents.
But one thing that you can make part of your day, will help to heal naturally. No matter what issue you’re working with it will begin to resolve itself. In fact, your body will literally “eat up” diseases in you. Believe it or not, every cell in your body has an intelligence, a life force, that is perpetually attempting to heal the body.
But why don’t we heal? Because we don’t allow that power to do its work.
Science Behind Autophagy
Friends, the energy of our body can focus only on one thing at a given time. If you run intensely just after a heavy meal, gas and acidity may occur. That’s because the energy that should be going towards digestion of the food is instead being used to run, and digestion therefore does not occur appropriately. That is why the body cannot need to heal.
Today we wake up and our first action is eating, be it breakfast or lunch or snacks, and then we will have dinner, again filling our stomachs to the brim before we sleep. Just imagine: the energy that could have been devoted to overnight healing is now being used to digest food. When this becomes the norm, the body never gets the opportunity to heal itself.
And that is where Autophagy comes in. The Nobel Prize in 2016 was awarded to a Japanese cell biologist for the discovery of Autophagy. Autophagy is when the body starts eating up its own diseases. Composed of the Greek words "Auto" (self) and "Phagy" (eating), the term autophagy refers to the penchant of cells to eat (or degrade) their own material. In that state, the body recycles unused proteins, damaged cells, cancer cells and broken cell walls to build new ones.
But this renewal, this repair work, can only take place when our stomach is empty. And the most practical and most convenient time to have the stomach empty is during the night.
Why Early Dinner is the Key
This means you had dinner at 7:00 PM. The body’s energy is especially directed toward digestion in the two hours after eating. By 23 hours, 30 minutes, your food has traveled down the digestive tract and your stomach is empty. This is the point Autophagy is activated. Every cell in your body is busy repairing itself while you sleep.
A 2020 study split people into two groups. Both groups were served the exact same dinner, except one group dined at 10:00 PM and the other at 6:00 PM. The groups went to sleep at 11:00 PM. The result? Those who dined at 6:00 PM lost 10% more weight. So for someone of their size, 100 kg will lose 10 kg extra than someone who eats late at night.
Practical Implementations of Early Dinner
So now the question is, how do you put this to use? I appreciate that it can be difficult to eat early in the evening, particularly if you work late. But here are a few tips that may help:
- Turn Your Evening Snack In Dinner: If you reach home late from your workplace, have a proper meal at 5-6 PM. Now choose protein-rich meals such as paneer rolls, chole rice or dal rice.
- If you feel hungry at night, drink water or milk: If you feel hungry at night then drink water with lemon, honey and rock salt. Or have half a glass of milk.
- Teach your family: If your home serves dinner a bit late, tell how early dinner helps your family. It is better to develop the habit of joint early eating.

My friends, energy in our body is always consumed for food digestion. Just like: if you had been requested to go to work each day for 365 days straight, without a day off, would you be able to get the job done? And this is exactly what happens to our tummy. This is why you should start giving your stomach a fast 12-14 hours each day. Keep in mind: with only one change here, you can already begin to eliminate your health problems.
I, too, once consumed six meals per day in this quest for body building. I have two proper meals today: 10-11 AM and 5-6 PM. And it can say a lot because our body is very, very flexible from my experience. It is raw material that you can shape in whatever way you desire.
