When my car went in for repairs, I urgently needed a rental car. I quickly downloaded the EZhire app from the app store, attracted by their promise to deliver a car to my location and pick it up from wherever I left it.
Everything seemed smooth initially; the car arrived on time, and I reached my destination without any issues. Being extra cautious, I even parked the car in a secluded spot, away from traffic and people. After using the car for a day, I filled the tank back up—actually, I returned it with more fuel than it came with. Then, I arranged for the car to be collected, as my rental period was over.
The next day, an EZhire driver came to pick up the car, and I thought everything was settled. However, three days later, I received a notification that 300 AED had been deducted from my bank account by EZhire. Confused, I contacted their support team, who informed me that the charge was for "Damage Repair Costs."
This claim seemed completely unfounded. They sent me pictures of supposed damages: a few small marks on the driver's seat and a scratch on the wheel rim. I knew these were baseless accusations because I had taken great care while using the car.
What made the situation worse was that I had deleted my payment information after returning the car, yet they still charged me without any prior notification. Another concerning aspect of EZhire is their registration process. When you sign up, they ask for a digital signature, which they then use to sign multiple contracts without your knowledge or consent. I regret not digging deeper into the app's reviews before using it. Although the app has many 4-star reviews (likely from bots), there are genuine 1-star reviews from real customers who had similar negative experiences.
It's disappointing that a company like EZhire is allowed to operate in the UAE, given their questionable practices. If you're considering using their services, I strongly advise you to think twice and do thorough research.
