SINGAPORE: Commuters taking the North East Line and Circle Line to and from Serangoon MRT station can have to undergo safety screening on Tuesday (Dec 7). It is a part of an emergency preparedness exercise carried out by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), SBS Transit and SMRT Trains. The exercise, dubbed Exercise Station Guard, will happen from 10am to 4pm, stated LTA and the transport operators in a joint information launch on Wednesday."Commuters should factor in additional time for the security screening during this period. Commuters with bulky items may require more time to clear security checks," they added. Some commuters may additionally be requested to undergo steel detector checks and have their belongings scanned by X-ray machines. In line with protected administration measures, commuters have been reminded to hold their masks on and chorus from speaking.During the exercise, commuters coming into the station nearer to the North East Line platform might be directed in direction of the fare gates close to Exits A and D. Those coming into nearer to the Circle Line will proceed to the fare gates close to Exits E and G. Exercise Station Guard has been carried out frequently since February 2018 as a part of efforts to strengthen the safety response at Singapore's public transport community and familiarise the general public with what to do during an emergency.
