Description of the Wine Bottle

One of the things that make Viner från Spanien special is the wineries that make these wines, age the respective wine for you in bottles and sometimes in oak barrels as well. This would mean that you get the chance to drink the finely aged cellar wines which taste the best. In order to find out if the wine has been aged or not, you can search the terms Joven, Crianza, Reserva or even Gran Reserva on the bottle.

If any of these terms are mentioned on the bottle then you can assume the fact that these wines have been aged well. If the bottle mentions the term Gran Rivera it means that the bottle has been aged longest. Joven signifies that the wine has been aged but not that significantly. The labelling system of the Viner från Spanien is similar to that of France and Italy since all these countries are a part of the European Union.

There is also a certificate of Denomination given to these wines. These particular certificates state the area where the grapes for the wine were planted and other details as well. These certificates have a grading system. These grading systems indicate the wine quality as per the set standards.

Types of Viner från Spanien

There are some distinctive types of Spanish Wines. Most of these wines have a different taste or have been prepared in a different way. Some of the types of wines are:

1. Cava

One of the most famous and popular types of sparkling wine is Cava in Spain. The production of Cava is mostly done in Catalonia which is in the Northeast part of Barcelona in Spain. Cava has a distinctive method to be processed. The wine goes through two rounds of fermentation. These two rounds of fermentation are done so that it gets bubbles similar to that of Champagne. Cava can be of both rose and white type of wines.

Cava goes through an extended time of ageing which increases the level of yeast thus giving it a rich taste. Cava comes with a heavy apple flavour and generally contains a bit of sugar. Cava is best suited when you want to drink a not very expensive yet classy wine during dinner.

2. White Wines

There are several subsections to Spanish white wine. Firstly let’s talk about the salty and fresh type of white wine. The wine under this particular type is Txakoli. This particular type of wine is produced near the Northern coast of Spain near the city of San Sebastian in Basque Country.

This wine is dominated by a citrusy taste and has low alcohol levels. It also has spritz content which is derived from a particular type of grape. There are a lot of producers of this specific wine. A lot of these winemakers regularly import to the US as well. There is also a rose version of Txakoli which gives the drinker a fresh taste. When this wine is drunk it may taste like salted watermelon.

Then moving on to the other type of wines which are basically very rich and textured in taste. These particular wines are made from the Godello grapes. Godello grapes have a distinctive taste of lemon and cantaloupe flavours. The taste of this wine is very much vibrant and it can easily be consumed over a course of lunch or dinner. The wines made under this type have a vibrant aroma that smells like a mixture of lemon and almonds.

The wines can be bottled individually under the godello grapes or be mixed with other types of grapes such as Chardonnay and Blanca. In one of the greatest wineries of Spain that is the Lopez de Heredia, the white wines are put in a cellar in Oak Barrels for several years together in order to make the wines taste the best. It has been reported that the wines kept in the cellars do not hit the shelves of the wine store for at least a decade in order to make sure that the fermentation process is carried out easily.

3. Spanish Red Wines
