Surfing, climbing and skateboarding are already part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The Japanese organizers had already proposed these games with Karate. The Paris Games organizers said they wanted to show a program that could attract new and young audiences. Under the IOC’s new rule for Tokyo Olympics, the host country may propose to select and include some sports. These can also be sports that are very popular in that country and are worth adding to the appeal of the game.

The youth is also strongly focused. The IOC has raised the total athlete quota to 10,500. More than 11,000 were held at the Summer Olympics recently. In Paris, male and female athletes will be 50–50 per cent on par, higher than the Tokyo Olympics (48.8 per cent of women).
